Who to contact to deliver ambassadorial services

Thank you for your continued interest in the development of the Women’s Enterprise Ambassador Network. As you know the previous minister Margaret Hodge launched the Network at an event in London highlighted the importance of providing role models to those embarking on personal fulfilment through enterprise.

 

The following organisations have indicated a desire to work with the Women’s Enterprise Ambassador Network:

  • Enterprise Insight manages a number of different schemes aimed at inspiring young people to consider enterprise. The “Make your Mark” campaign is always looking for inspirational speakers. Find out more at www.starttalkingideas.org
  • StemNet offers similar opportunities with the emphasis of Science Technology and engineering. Their web site offers useful information on how to work with them. An application form needs to be completed and the usual CRB checks made. StemNet local organisers will then work with you directly to identify suitable opportunities.   • The Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), part of Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge, is keen to encourage ambassadors/entrepreneurs to contribute to some of their programmes, especially the new Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship.   • A Year in Industry offer all organisations public or private the chance to work with talented young people with paid, degree relevant work placements in the year out before or during their university course. As an Ambassador you can champion this scheme within your organisation. To find out more about what is expected look here.
  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships If organisations have a strategic need to develop that a student could help fulfil. The regional advisor and a good first point of contact is Wendy Mannix SE England, London, and East of England 0870 1908169
  • Prince's Trust offers practical help to change young people’s lives. Volunteer Personal Mentors need to have the ability to relate to young people and the commitment to help them overcome often considerable disadvantages? As a Prince's Trust volunteer mentor, you'll encourage and assist a young person to plan and take steps towards achieving a goal, moving towards employment, training or education opportunities. You can help them with their choices and directions, lending advice, support and a listening ear.The role will challenge you. Most of the young people we help are overcoming various disadvantages (i.e. a record of offending, a life spent in care, long-term unemployment, having no qualifications) and they're lacking in key skills, confidence, plans and more.   • Young Enterprise is a nationally recognised provider of business and enterprise education programmes, which are based on the principle of "learning by doing". Each programme involves practical, fun, hands-on activities, led by a volunteer from local business or the community working alongside teachers/ lecturers with specifically designed Young Enterprise programmes. Young Enterprise volunteers become part of an exciting and enjoyable learning experience for the local community. Through becoming a Young Enterprise volunteer, you can make a real difference to the lives and potential of young people from age 5 to 25 in your area by helping them to understand the world of business and prepare for their working lives.To find out more, see the Young Enterprise East of England website yeee.org.uk or discuss the options with Claire Gray (07815 905304).   • Social Enterprise East of England have launched a new peer to peer micro coaching scheme. The project has two stages. The first stage involves recruiting leaders and managers of small organisations to become Micro Coaches and the second stage involves encouraging other small businesses to have a Micro Coach train them in a specific skill. SEES will be offering appointed Micro Coaches training in how to share their skills through coaching others. Further details are available here.
  • Business in the Community – BiC is a unique movement of over 700 of the UK’s top companies committed to improving their positive impact on society. BiC currently has two campaigns that may be of interest to Ambassadors. The main BITC gender equality campaign is called Opportunity Now . At a local level BiC broker professional help into the voluntary and community sector through their ProHelp scheme.
  • Business Link East (BLE) run lots of events and workshops around the region. If you are interested in working with BLE as a trainer the visit the supplier matching site here or call the contact centre on 0845 7171615. All of the Ambassadors registered through the Enterprising Women site will be made known to the Events Director at BLE as potential key note speakers for future events.
